Pay gap reporting required before the Directive

When Directive (Article 9) pay gap reporting starts

Article 9 reporting covers seven indicators: the mean and median gender pay gap, the mean and median gap in variable pay, the proportion of women and men receiving variable pay, the proportion of women and men in each pay quartile, and the gender pay gap by category of workers.

Not yet legislated.

Things to work on now

  1. Priority for Hungary. Expect short lead times: commentators warn Hungarian transposing law may apply with little preparation time. Start data and job architecture work now.
  2. Use the Directive as your baseline. The Directive sets minimum requirements (Articles 4 to 10) that national law must include, so preparation is not wasted.
  3. Job architecture. Build or review gender-neutral job evaluation so you can group roles into categories of workers doing work of equal value (Article 4).
  4. Data readiness. Check your HR and payroll systems can produce the Article 9 indicators, including variable pay and gaps by category of workers.
  5. Contracts and recruitment. Review pay secrecy clauses and pay history questions now, as these changes carry little cost.
  6. Review date. Set a date to check for a published bill, as national timelines can move quickly.
